Hanover School Division is pleased to announce an agreement in principle to purchase serviced land from the Town of Niverville for the construction of a new 66,700 sq. ft. high school. Scheduled for completion by September 2019, the school will serve 450 Grade 9‐12 students and have expansion capacity for up to 550 students.
The new school will have regular classrooms, science labs, art room, and other specialized spaces such as a large library, computer rooms, life‐skills suite, and resource areas. Building plans include a multi‐purpose room, band room, drama room, fitness room, and large gymnasium. The newly constructed facility will also feature an integrated child‐care centre that will provide up to 74 spaces.
Located on the west side of Niverville, the newly selected building site meets school construction requirements and provides opportunity for the development of a community campus, a future co‐location with the Town of Niverville’s proposed multiplex recreational centre.
Building towards a community campus concept provides opportunities for synergies of use between the two facilities, strengthens community ownership, and provides additional value for public funding. The facilities can operate independently of each other, yet benefit from shared infrastructure development costs and operational efficiencies. The community campus model will also reduce environmental impact, and enhance environmental stewardship.
The Hanover School Division and the Town of Niverville continue to work cooperatively to enhance public services for the community of Niverville and region, while achieving cost savings on the construction of a new school. This partnership has enabled HSD to secure a preferred building site that will meet proposed timelines for construction, while staying within the budget allocated by the Public Schools Finance Board.
The Board of Trustees of the Hanover School Division are appreciative of the Town of Niverville and their efforts on this project. Working together strengthens the shared goals of HSD and the Town to serve the community of Niverville.
